"BANTO" Replacement Japanese Carbon Blade 35mm for Multi-brand Hand Plane

★★★ Three HONMAMON Stars (link)

While most Western plane blades are made from a single piece of steel, our replacement blades are produced by a Miki-based plane blacksmith using the same laminated construction as Japanese kanna blades—Blue Paper Steel No.1 forge-welded to soft iron. This results in noticeably superior sharpness and ease of sharpening.
Drawing on traditional Japanese kanna techniques, the very tip of the blade’s back is given a subtle upward relief, making the blade significantly easier to sharpen.
In addition, only the back side of the blade uses Blue Paper Steel No.1, while the majority of the bevel consists of soft iron, which sharpens quickly. Unlike typical Western replacement blades, this structure allows the blade to reach a finished edge much faster and with far less wear on the sharpening stone.

Let us assist you in creating a unique and bespoke hand plane blade. Simply provide us with the desired blade dimensions.

■ Note:

•     Please check the blade size of your Western plane to confirm compatibility.
These blades can be used with Western planes such as Lie-Nielsen, Stanley, Veritas, Dictum, and others.
•     Depending on the production timing, the surface finish (polishing) may differ slightly from the photos. Thank you for your understanding.
•     For ease of applying your preferred edge, the blades are only sharpened up to the medium-grit stage before shipping.
As with our other products, back flattening, sharpening with a medium stone (#1000), finishing stone (#3000–4000), and ultra‑finishing stone (#8000), as well as removing the burr, are required before use.
•     As each blade is handmade, slight variations in size may occur.
